Girlsoccer Project: Hadass plays with Stella

The project brings together 16 girls from Israel (also with arabic and bedouine background) and 16 girls from Halberstadt and surroundings for 7 days. The girls are aged 8 to 14 years. Within the group from Halberstadt there will be also girls with a different ethnic background (Kosovo, Russia and other).

They will play soccer together every morning for 2 hours. In the afternoon there will be a range of different acticities, a city tour of Halberstadt including a tour of the jewish sites in Halberstadt, a visit of the zoo, artistic activities and alike. The girls will spend the whole time together in a youth hostel and have breakfast there. Lunch and supper will be served in 'Kaffee Hirsch', a café in Halberstadt which also offers kosher food.

The project will be carried out by the Flick foundation against Xenophobia, Racism and Intolerance together with the local soccer club, VfB Germania Halberstadt, the Moses Mendelssohn Academy, Halberstadt and with the support of the German-Israeli Future Forum. The project is number 5 in a row. We, as the Flick Foundation, started in 2005 with the first integrative girls soccer camp carried out with the local Potsdam woman`s soccer club, Turbine Potsdam. In 2006 the project was organized with polish and german girls, taking place in Wroclaw and Potsdam, in 2007 and 2008 the girlscamps took place in Potsdam and Leipzig. “Hadass plays with Stella” is the first israely-german project.

The idea of the project is: to bring together girls with a different ethnic and religious background and to teach them to deal with conflicts in a constructive way and to build friendships amongst them and to develop a feeling of belonging together. They are urged to abide by fair play.

The four girlscamp so far have shown, that the girls had come together as a team, prejudices had been broken down and many of the girls developed friendships, which last until today.
