Concluding Conference of the Sylke Tempel Fellowship 2022
On December 14, 2022, the concluding conference of this year's Sylke Tempel Fellowship took place at the DGAP in Berlin and via Zoom. The interdisciplinary conference, focusing on "China and Israel: Foreign Policy, Trade and Influence in Unsteady Times," marked the conclusion and a highlight of the fourth Sylke Tempel Fellowship Program.

We discussed China's influence on Israel, as well as questions about China's communications strategy and its foreign and economic policies in relation to Israel and the region. With us were our high-ranking speakers Rachel  Tausendfreund (Senior Fellow German Marshall Fund and WIIS.de), Galia Lavi (INSS), Dr. Angela Stanzel (German Institute for International and Security Affairs) and Lea Sahay (Süddeutsche Zeitung), Ning Wang (Table.media), Almut Möller (State Councilor and Plenipotentiary of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg to the Federal Government, the EU and for Foreign Affairs), Jörg Lau (Die Zeit) and MP Roderich Kiesewetter (Representative of Foreign Affairs for the CDU/CSU-Caucus and Vice Chairman of the Parliamentary Oversight Panel) and Nana Brink (Journalist and Board Member of WIIS.de).

The special edition of the foreign policy magazine Internationale Politik under the title “China and Israel: power and markets” with the fellow’s articles was also presented at the conference.

It was a great pleasure for us to finally invite our 11 Fellows to Berlin to celebrate the conclusion of the fellowship 2022 together with them and many guests.

The conference was co-hosted by AJC BerlinBar-Ilan-UniversitätELNET Deutschland, the magazine Internationale Politik and WIIS.de, and was realized with the support of the Federal Agency for Civic Education. You can find the full program of the conference here.
