Sylke Tempel Fellowship
Sylke Tempel Fellowship

"Analytical acumen combined with great warmth and affection"

Shimon Stein, Der Tagesspiegel 6.10.2017

With the annual Sylke Tempel Fellowship, the German-Israeli Future Forum Foundation commemorates Dr. Sylke Tempel (1963–2017), journalist, political scientist, and an important voice in German foreign policy.

The Sylke Tempel Fellowship program is aimed at journalists, media professionals, and experts from Germany and Israel at the beginning of their careers. One year long, our Fellows will be supported in their research on self-selected projects on foreign and social policy issues that are of particular relevance to both countries. Each year, we set a different thematic focus to address current developments and challenges.

This way, we promote upcoming committed voices in the public discourse, together with selected partner organizations. The Fellows receive financial and non-material support and gain opportunities for exchange through workshops with experts and important insights through research trips. The results are published to a wide audience.

Initiated by our Foundation's Board of Trustees, we have been awarding the Fellowship since 2019.

Sylke Tempel

As a board member, Dr. Sylke Tempel advised the work of our foundation with wisdom and great commitment. She was an extraordinary voice in German foreign policy, a Middle East correspondent, editor for the “Jüdische Allgemeine”, lecturer at Stanford University, as well as author and editor-in-chief of the journal “Internationale Politik” published by the German Council on Foreign Relations.

We miss Sylke Tempel, her cleverness, her sense for justice, her puns, her ability to look forward with positivity and commitment, her laughter. The gap she left will remain.
