Our Program Priorities
The German-Israeli Future Forum Foundation funds projects within specified program priorities that are determined by the Board of Trustees for an agreed period of time. On this page, you will find information on our current program priorities as well as information on individual projects that are also eligible for funding on a limited scale.
Globally, the so-called third sector – or non-profit sector – is gaining more and more importance. In Germany as well as in Israel, non-profit and non-governmental organizations advocate together with projects and initiatives to have more of a say in shaping politics, society, culture, and the economy. This area is particularly attractive to young adults – and thus provides an excellent starting point for the German-Israeli Future Forum Foundation.
Within the framework of our program priority “Commitment and Responsibility,” we are currently funding the project “Kom-Mit-Nadev". This project organizes a volunteer service for young Israelis to go to Germany. For one year, these young adults work in any area of civil society in order to collect experiences and participate in everyday life in Germany. In this way, all involved benefit from a shared social and political engagement, an engagement that fosters intercultural competence and societal integration on both sides.
Likewise, in this program priority we are also currently funding the bilateral qualification program ”X-Change for Competence". This project targets junior professionals in the third sector. Participants are creating new networks that give rise to an active contribution to relations between Germany and Israel.
“Kom-Mit-Nadev” and “X-Change for Competence” are open for applications. You can find information and/or instructions regarding the application process for the project “Kom-Mit-Nadev” under: www.kom-mit-nadev.org
Please send an email to our office for any information and/or instructions regarding the application process for the project “X-Change for Competence”.
The program priority “Commitment and Responsibility” began on January 1, 2010 and runs until June 30, 2013. Funding proposals for projects outside the above-mentioned programs can be submitted until December 31, 2012. Please use our online form for any funding proposals.
A responsible understanding and handling of the past plays an ever-important role in German and Israeli public discussions. Knowledge and experience of the Shoah and National Socialism is always present in German-Israeli relations. Dealing with this theme, the question today is: how this history can be conveyed in an increasingly diverse society? What kinds of conflicts or areas of potential are created when minority and majority histories meet?
Within the framework of our program priority “The Past in the Future,” we are funding projects that tackle the impact of migration, processes of transformation, and demographic developments that influence the way history is conveyed. In 2010 and 2011, the German-Israeli Future Forum Foundation invited experts from both countries in the field of educational work on history and politics to workshops. As a direct result, bilateral projects and networks were created that are now funded by the Foundation.
The program priority “The Past in the Future” began on January 1, 2010 and runs until June 30, 2012. Project proposals outside the above-described workshops but still offer young professionals the chance for additional qualifications and networking in the area of memorial culture and commemoration are welcome to apply. Funding proposals can be submitted until December 31, 2011.
Language skills are an important foundation for German-Israeli relations. Therefore, we fund language courses for our German-Israeli projects and cooperating partners. Participants of projects already being funded by the Foundation are eligible for language grants. In the case that sufficient funding is available, we may also provide funding for participants of other German-Israeli projects.
Funding is made available for the costs of certified language classes. Participants of German-Israeli non-profit, cooperative projects, civil society initiatives, or public institutions are entitled to submit applications. As a rule, those funded are expected to contribute 20 % of the language fee costs.
The program priority “Language Acquisition” began on January 1, 2010 and runs until December 31, 2012. Funding applications can be submitted until November 30, 2012. Note: This date is subject to change. Informal applications can be sent per Email to our office. Please do not use the online form for project proposals.
Under certain circumstances, we do fund individual projects that do not correspond to our program priorities. These projects must, however, be consistent with the Foundation’s target groups and funding criteria – that is, they must be bilateral, contribute to building networks, and be future-oriented. Additionally, these projects should be thematic and/or methodologically innovative.
Within the area of individual projects, we can also imagine proposals that create or further facilitate networks between German and Israeli partners. Therefore, we also fund the processes involved in collective brainstorming and project development. However, if we do award support, this does not include any guarantee of direct further funding. A follow-up application can be submitted and will be considered.
