The 4th Berlin – Jerusalem Musical Encounter
Does chamber music excite young people? In the case of the Berlin-Jerusalem Musical Encounter the answer is without a doubt “yes!” When the talented high-school age youth of the renowned Julius Stern Institute at the Berlin University of the Arts and the well-known Jerusalem Music Center come together, it’s a special experience for everyone involved. This experience begins with close listening, something that is essential for not only playing together in an ensemble but also during interpersonal encounters. This continues in the supervision of the students by prominent musicians from both institutes and the celebratory final concert in Jerusalem. Working together musically and living together in the Ben Shemen Youth Village Campus facilitates new links for both institutions and their young talented students equally. This cooperation has an influence on the classical music scene in both countries and its lasting impact is demonstrated by the project itself: The musical encounter takes place for the fourth time in 2011.
The project “4th Berlin – Jerusalem Musical Encounter” takes place from May 15 to August 15, 2011. It brings together in Jerusalem ten students from each participating institute for up-and-coming young musicians – the Julius Stern Institute at the Berlin University of the Arts and the Jerusalem Music Center. Alongside practice sessions and a final concert, the program includes joint recreational activities.
