Dok-Station - Beyond Yesterday and Tomorrow
People’s perceptions of the world are always shaped by the context in which one lives and works. What applies generally is all the more true in regards to the perspective of the film camera – and of course the people behind the camera. Thus, in the future, there will be an exchange between the well-known schools, the dffb in Berlin and the Yolanda and David Katz Faculty at Tel Aviv University, which will start with the Dok-Station project. At first the focus is on organizational and structural requirements that will help establish a transnational (film) cooperation. Included here is not just the theoretical/conceptual work, but also the realization of concrete projects – from shooting the film to post-production.
For the students the emphasis is on the creative exchange, the artistic cooperation and a common film language. The Dok-Station serves as a bridge between both film schools – and by extension between societal realities and perceptions thereof in Germany and Israel. The dffb film student Döndü Kilic is heading the pilot project “Beyond Yesterday and Tomorrow,” that sees the development of a 90-minute documentary film together with Israeli film students. At the center of the film is a portrait of five youth who survived the attack in August 2009 on the gay and lesbian youth club “Bar-Noar“ in Tel Aviv.
From September 2011 to January 2012, the German Film and Television Academy in Berlin (dffb) and the Yolanda and David Katz Faculty at Tel Aviv University are developing the foundation for an exchange project “Dok-Station” that will facilitate cooperation between students from both institutions. The first production as a part of this project will be the documentary “Beyond Yesterday and Tomorrow“.
