Area of Activity II: Innovation and Technology

Formula ATID – Applied Technology Transfer Israel-Germany

Participants
Around 70 engineering, management and social studies students

Project Content
The Technion – Israel Institute of Technology’s FSAE racing team and the Hochschule Ravensburg-Weingarten’s Formula Student Team work jointly on developing a tool for producing two-part carbon rims. The prospective engineers also hold mutual consultations with their team colleagues from the management and social science departments, whether in terms of developing the car, planning costs or team building. The rims are intended for use in the “Formula Student Construction Competition” – and to lead the team to victory in the annual car race between teams from 49 countries as part of the Formula Student Competition.

Project Working Methods
The technical challenges are by no means the only special thing about this project, for the participants also get to train their intercultural skills as part of the joint working process. The project offers them the opportunity to grapple with questions of identity and belonging, rethink existing prejudices as well as fixed ways of thinking and taking action, and learn a new culture of discussion within a series of seminars and workshops.

Project Goals
The three-year project generates individual learning experiences for each of the participants and has one joint goal: to master a technical challenge as an interdisciplinary group, moving from design via development all the way to the practical test at the international competition. The process is documented with the help of image and video material as well as a social media presence.
