Humanizing Work – An Israeli-German Exchange for Young Craftspeople
Vocational training in handicraft work in Germany and Israel could hardly be more different. In this two-part project, both a practical construction project is implemented and the vocational training in theory and practice in both countries is examined. In the first part of the project, German trainees from various crafts and young Israelis work together under the guidance of master craftsmen to build a terrace roof for a school building on the kibbutz in Ravid in the Galilee region in northern Israel. In order to gain insight into life on the kibbutz, the project participants also work in different areas of the kibbutz. In the second part of the project, Israeli trainers work together with their German partners on current construction projects at the vocational school in Berlin. Existing interfaces and possibilities for future cooperation will be explored. An interesting joint cultural, historical, and recreational program rounds out the two exchanges.
Participants
10 German trainees from different crafts, 3 master craftsmen, Israeli youths, 10 instructors from Israel, specialist instructors, and trainees from Germany
Project Goals
This German-Israeli craftspeople exchange pilot project is intended to contribute to making trained professions in Germany more attractive for young trainees through a working stay in Israel. At the same time, the project is intended to serve as an inspiration and to promote the German training model in Israel. In the intensive building and in-person meeting phases, the participants learn how to implement concrete projects in a given time with the given means. This both creates self-confidence in their own abilities and builds new networks.
